iFilm’s ‘A Cube of Sugar’, so much Persian style

iFilm’s movie ‘A Cube of Sugar’ is full of most great Persian characteristics.

iFilm’s weekend movie ‘A Cube of Sugar’ depicts a large number of most traditional and customary Persian characteristics in a film.

‘A Cube of Sugar’ metaphorically refers to the life of Iranians in which happiness and sorrow co-exist.

The fundamental element of such a film, making it so much Iranian, is the director’s utmost attention to the concept of family in the Iranian lifestyle.

A memorable sequence of the film’s glowing pastel canvas takes place when the female lead Negar Javaherian is featured on a wooden swing.

“A fatal sweetener turns preparations for nuptials into quite another kind of gathering in Iranian director Reza Mirkarimi’s latest offering, ‘A Cube of Sugar’. Spilling over with light and movement as the bride-to-be’s sisters, their husbands and assorted mourning kinfolk weave through interconnected rooms of the house and garden, Mirkarimi posits family as an organic entity native to the countryside,” Variety once wrote.

“Little pockets of intrigue form within the kinetic congregation as in-laws dig for buried treasure, nephews tremblingly lie in wait for ghosts, and tensions bubble just below the surface in the form of delayed medical diagnoses and wistfully mourned old flames,” it added.

The film follows a young girl from a traditional Iranian family who is set to marry the son of a family friend living abroad. As her entire family arrives to take part in the wedding ceremony, an unexpected event turns the joy of the moment into sadness and sorrow.

The movie cast list includes Negar Javaherian, Farhad Aslani, Ali-Asghar Hemmat, Parivash Nazariyeh, Reza Kianian, Rima Raminfar, Hedayat Hashemi, Saeed Pour-Samimi, Amir-Hossein Arman, and Shamsi Fazlollahi.

For your information, two great Iranian directors have designed poster and TV trailers for ‘A Cube of Sugar’.

Reza Mirkarimi's flick is graced with the presence of mega-directors Abbas Kiarostami and Majid Majidi who made the poster and TV trailers, respectively, for the amazing film.

Do not miss the movie on iFilm English TV tonight at 22:00 GMT.
